2024 EOY SOUL Audit

Where does the time go?

No, really, where does it *go*?

It’s the last Sunday of 2024.

I know that there are many symbolic new years or moments that feel ripe for a renewal or restart.

The most recent solstice (Dec. 21st) was one, as is the (Western) calendar changing to officially demarcate another year happening in just a few days.

This is a great time for seasonal reflection and contemplation, I believe.

So much can happen in a year.

So much has happened in a year.

The older I get, the more tuned in I am to how much making every moment count is essential for a life you can feel proud of and happy experiencing.

And that is the basis for my end of the year reflection:

Have I done all I could to make my life count?

Am I doing all I can to create a life that I feel proud of and am happy experiencing?

How has this year nourished my SOUL¹?

What is weighing me down?

What can I let go of?

What are the ways or the things that are holding me back?

What do I need to recommit myself to?

Where can I learn to be more expansive?

In what ways can I be more free?

Yea…

So dem be my thoughts.

Two things I want to leave you with in 2024 (or two recs actually):

1. Check out the South African miniseries, “How to Ruin Christmas” on Netflix. I’m re-watching the series now with my mom and it’s such a beautifully crafted story with so many beautifully melanated people. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry and getcha whole life with all the spectacular array of fashions, music and just the overall bombastic South African aesthetic on display!

2. Read Elizabeth Gilbert’s book, “Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear.” I literally started it today and I just might finish it tonight! It’s a great book to close out one year and begin the next, imo because it’s super profound, insightful and inspirational in a no-nonsense, grounded, yet mystical kind of way. Read it if you are looking for a spark to reconnect you to your own magic.

I hope whatever qualms you have had with this year, you walk into 2025 proud that you are still here and resolved to know that whatever you experienced, you did what you could, in the ways that you could and you’re still here with the capability to continue.

I hope you know that you are, you were, and will always be more than enough. The beauty and blessings of (your) life start from within you and flow outward. So, honor yourself, your process and your progress. All of it and all of you are worthy. Asé.

However you choose to welcome 2025, whether you plan to celebrate, go about business as usual, or quietly practice some sacred rituals in solitude, I hope you are safe, happy and feeling well loved.
